ICS Beta ROM released for Neo V

After promising an Ice Cream Sandwich update to all 2011 Xperia phones, Sony is putting its money where its mouth is and offering early access to the beta software to the Xperia Arc S, Neo V and Ray. All three have an official Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, and anybody can download the software and install it at their leisure – though it’s recommended for “advanced developers only”. Sony offered a few alpha ROMs before, but I’ve never even heard of an Android beta program quite this ambitious. Bravo, Sony. Bravo.

Expected features in Final version:

*Updated UI
*Ability to control Music player and camera from lock screen
*Close applications by just sliding to the right of the screen

Sony Mobile has also promised that the final version will allow users to unlock their phone simply by looking into the device's front-facing camera. This feature isn't, unfortunately, included in the beta ROM.

Sony Xperia Neo V

Sony Ericsson Neo v is a downgraded version of Xperia Neo which was released in 2011, March. The neo V has the same specifications as the previous Xperia neo, save for the camera. It's now a 5 megapixel one instead of 8 megapixels. Sony Ericsson had some difficulties manufacturing the 8 megapixel camera sensors since the tragic earthquakes in Japan and that's why the downgraded version Neo v (it’s the Roman numeral five, not the letter v) was Released 2011, October to replace the predecessor.

The Neo V is the Xperia Pro sans slide out QWERTY keypad The rounded ends gives it a neat “oval” shape, but what didn’t work for us was the rather bulk design and 126g of weight it carries. The Neo V just looks a little odd in the ranks of today’s slim handset configurations. A Mini HDMI and micro USB are located at the top of the device on either side of the 3.5mm handsfree socket. The screen lock/power button and camera activation/shutter release keys are on the left hand side of the handset with the volume rocker in between. Sony Ericsson has removed the ‘Search’ button and stuck to just three physical keys under the 3.7-inch LED Backlit display (480 x 854 pixel resolution). A VGA front facing camera is also present just above the display to the right of the earpiece.
