Sony gifts Xperia Neo V with Ice cream sandwich

Sony Xperia Neo V gets the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwitch(Android 4.0) towards the end of April 2012. The 3 models of Xperia getting Ice Cream Sandwitch are Arc S, Neo V and Ray. Earlier in Dec 2011, the Alpha ROM of ICS was available for developers. Google mobile services, modem and call functions was disabled in that version. After that, Beta ROM got released in March. Sony started rolling out an official version of Ice cream sandwich for Nordic countries in Mid of April. ICS is now released to all other countries and users are busy updating their phones to the latest version.

Obviously the main attraction for ICS is the Face unlock. Other attractions are Stylish UI, improved memory management, improved web browser, seamless multitasking, Data Consumption monitor, improved communications and better functionality to users. However. Android 4.0’s hardware requirements are more advanced, which means the performance of the phone may be affected. Secondly, once you make the update there is no going back to Android 2.3. Thirdly, not all 3rd party applications will be compatible with Android 4.0.

A day after ICS was released, I tried to update my phone via PCcompanion. I was accessing Internet through a friend's Idea Netsetter. It was too slow. So updation was taking too much time. Yesterday when I reached home I again tried to update phone via PC companion, but was stuck on 'preparing computer for software update'. I went through Sony support community and saw posts about 'Update service'. I installed it and successfully updated to ICS. First time it was bit lagging. I restarted the phone and cleared cache. It is now working fine as Gingerbread.

   New Features:

  • New Activity Manager allows user to close apps
  • Stylish UI(User Interface)
  • Increase available Internal memory (available phone memory doubled from 70 Mb to 140Mb)
  • Inbuilt Data Monitor to track and limit Internet usage
  • Owner Info display on lock screen
  • Music and Camera controls on lock screen
  • Increased RAM usage
  • Face unlock feature
  • Multitasking in stock browser
